Thursday 23rd September: Ian Rankin: The Dark Remains. The hall is delighted to host Mainstreet Trading Company’s celebration of an extraordinary new publication that brings together two of Scotland’s masters of crime fiction. William McIlvanney’s Laidlaw trilogy changed the face of crime fiction in the 1970s and 1980s, inspiring an entire generation of crime writers, including Ian Rankin. When McIlvanney died in 2015, he left half a handwritten manuscript of Laidlaw’s first case – his first new novel in 25 years. Rankin has finished what McIlvanney started. In The Dark Remains these two iconic authors bring to life the criminal world of 1970s Glasgow, and the relentless quest for truth. The ticket price includes a copy of the book. All inquiries about the event should be addressed to Mainstreet. But it has sold out! For the latest information on government restrictions, click on the Covid Policy button on the hall’s webpage; this statement is constantly updated.
