19 February: local historian JOHN WOOD at the Wednesday Warmup
John’s talk is entitled “The Baron’s Folly”. The Baron being Robert Rutherford of Fairnington (1719-1794). The Baron’s Folly stands to the east of the A68 on top of Down Law mid-way between Lilliardsedge and Peniel Heugh. A rather unremarkable octagonal rubble structure, it is nevertheless a prominent reminder of the Rutherford’s adventurous Mediterranean. The talk will aim to tease out the connections between the folly and the career.
