As the main Village Hall renovation project nears its conclusion, you would be forgiven for thinking everything has gone like a breeze and the various people involved have had no problem getting all the money necessary to do everything needed. In a way, you would be right – things have gone better than expected from a technical point of view, and so far we have always been on schedule, thanks largely to the professionalism of Murray & Burrell, and the people they work with (architects, electricians, decorators, plasterers, plumbers, roofers and so many more).
On the other hand, it has been touch-and-go with regards to funding, and the Public Hall Committee, along with the various sub-committees, on your behalf, have been working extremely hard behind the scenes to ensure everything is paid for on time and without compromising quality. This is very difficult work, especially in such lean times, so credit where credit is due – I’m sure the individual volunteers are too modest to want naming here, though.
There is still a lot to pay for to completely complete the job, including things that we have had to leave out as they are are cosmetic but not cheap; such as a new stage curtain and laying a new floor in the Main Hall (which really is worn out). We also need to purchase storage for the Lesser and Upper halls; have a quotation but no money for the stage lighting, and would dearly love to put in high speed wireless broadband, an integrated sound system and a community cinema. If you can help in any way then please go to the RENOVATION page and get in contact.
To finish off, here are a few photos of things as they stand at the moment, with only four weeks to go until we are ready to move back!
